What kind of poem is 'Elegy'?

• A lyric poem mourning for the death of an individual or lamenting over a tragic event is called - Elegy (শোকগাথা).

•Elegy এর কিছু বৈশিষ্ট্য রয়েছে -
- যেমন -
- এই ধরণের কবিতাগুলো মূলত speaker এর lamentation বা শোকের প্রকাশ দ্বারা শুরু করা হয়।
- Elegy এর মধ্যবর্তী অংশে the speaker idealizes and admires the dead.
- এরপর speaker এক পর্যায়ে সমাজকে দোষারোপ করে থাকে for doing injustice to the dead এবং for not allowing the dead person to do what he could have done.
- The speaker usually তাঁর মৃত বন্ধু বা ব্যক্তিটিকে তাঁর চারপাশে অনুভব করতে থাকেন এবং এই কারনে বিভিন্ন spiritual quotations এর সৃষ্টি হয় এই ধরনের কবিতায়।
- Elegy এর last /closing part এর লেখককে শান্তি এবং সান্তনা খুঁজে পেতে দেখা যায়।
-'Elegy Written in the Country Churchyard' by Thomas Gray is one of the finest examples of Elegy.

অন্যদিকে,
• A narrative poem that tells a story through dialogue and action - Ballad.
• A lyric poem or songs in praise of God - Hymn.
• A short poem expressing personal or subjective thoughts and intense feelings of a single speaker. It is identical to a song sung with a lyre - Lyric
