What is the primary theme of an Elegy?

• Elegy:
- এর অর্থ শোকগাথা।
- A lyric poem mourning for death of an individual or lamenting over a tragic event is called elegy.
- It opens with lamentation for the death of speaker's dear one.
- Its meditative in nature.
- Its tone is grave.
- In its closing part the speaker finds consolation and solace.

• Famous elegy of English Literature:
- In Memoriam (Alfred Tennyson),
- Lycidas (John Milton),
- Adonais ( P. B. Shelley),
- Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard (Thomas Gray) etc.

• Lycidas (elegy):
- এটি একটি শোকগাঁথা, কবি তার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বন্ধু বা সহপাঠীর জাহাজ দূর্ঘটনায় মৃত্যুর প্রেক্ষিতে লিখেছিলেন।
