What is the definition of Denotation?

• Denotation:
- The direct or lexical meaning of any word.
- Denotation is a word or thing’s literal or main definition
- অর্থাৎ এটি কোনো শব্দের সরাসরি বা আভিধানিক অর্থ নির্দেশ করে।

Example:
- A "Bird" is a winged biped that can Fly.
- "Man" is a wingless biped.

• A word’s denotation is completely absent of emotion, so it is defined as distinguished from its connotation (its associated meaning). In other words, denotation is a word’s "dictionary definition" rather than its associated emotion or definition.
