- Personification অর্থ হচ্ছে কোন জর বস্তুকে ব্যক্তিরুপ দান।
- A figure of speech in which lifeless objects or ideas are given imaginary life.
- অর্থাৎ নির্জীব বা জড় বস্তুকে ব্যক্তিরুপে প্রয়োগ করার কৌশল।
-  এর মাধ্যমে কোন জড় বস্তকে কাল্পনিক জীবন দান করে সেগুলোকে উপমা হিসাবে লেখায় ব্যবহার করা হয়। 

যেমন:
''There lies the port: the vessel puffs her sail:
(Tennyson: ''Ulysses'')
The vessel has been used as a living being.

• অন্যদিকে, 
•  Simile
- An explicit comparison between two different things is called - Simile 
- Usually as and like are used in it. In simile the resemblance is explicitly indicated by the words.
- দুটি ভিন্নধর্মী জিনিসের মধ্যে As  ও Like দ্বারা তুলনা বোঝালে তাকে Simile বলে।
- উপমেয়ের সাথে উপমানের সাদৃশ্য কল্পনা করা।

• Paradox
- A self-contradictory statement that hides a rational meaning.
- Paradox হচ্ছে আপাত বিরোধী কিন্তু সত্য।
- Example: I must be cruel to be kind. (Hamlet, Shakespeare)
- যেখানে surface meaning কিংবা আপাত দৃষ্টিতে লাইনটির অর্থ contradictory.

• Oxymoron: 
- A figure of speech in which apparently contradictory words are put together.
- A word or group of words that is self-contradicting, as in bittersweet or plastic glass.
- পরস্পরবিরোধী দুটি অর্থ একসাথে মিলে একটি অর্থ প্রকাশ করলে সেটি oxymoron-এর উদাহরণ।
