The teacher said to the boy, "Why were you absent yesterday?" (make it indirect)

Direct: The teacher said to the boy, "Why were you absent yesterday?"
Indirect: The teacher asked the boy why he had been absent the previous day.

• Interrogative এর ক্ষেত্রে, Direct speech থেকে Indirect speech এ রূপান্তরের নিয়ম:
- প্রথমে Reporting verb এর Subject বসে।
- Reporting verb say/said, tell/told (যদি থাকে) বসে পরিবর্তিত হয়ে tense অনুযায়ী ask/asked বসে।
- তারপর Reported speech টি যদি auxiliary verb দ্বারা শুরু হয় তাহলে Inverted comma তুলে দিয়ে linker হিসেবে if/whether বসবে।
- তবে, Reported speech টি যদি "Wh" word দ্বারা শুরু হয় তাহলে তা অপরিবর্তিত থাকবে। অর্থাৎ, সেই "Wh" question word টি ই conjunction হিসেবে বসবে।
- reported speech এর Subject বসে।
- Direct speech এর Tense- Indirect speech এ পরিবর্তন হয়।
- বাকি অংশ বসবে।

• প্রদত্ত বাক্য: The teacher said to the boy, "Why were you absent yesterday?"
- এটি প্রশ্নবোধক বাক্য হওয়ায় "said to" পরিবর্তিত হয়ে "asked" হয়েছে।
- বাক্যটি "Why" দিয়ে শুরু হওয়ায় ইনভার্টেড কমা উঠে গিয়ে Why শব্দটিই linker হিসেবে বসেছে।
- 2nd person "you" অবজেক্ট "the boy" অনুযায়ী পরিবর্তিত হয়ে "he" হয়েছে।
- Reported speech Past indefinite tense এ থাকায় Indirect করার সময় Past Perfect tense এ পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।
