- Swan song বলতে মূলত কোনো লেখকের সাহিত্যিক জীবনের শেষ সাহিত্যকর্ম (last work) কে বোঝায়।
- William Shakespeare -এর শেষ নাটক হলো The Tempest.
- তাই এটিকে Shakespeare -এর swan song বলা হয়।
- এটি 5 act এ বিভক্ত একটি Romantic comedy, যা ১৬২৩ সালে First Foilo -এর অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়ে প্রকাশিত হয়।
- Tempest শব্দটির অর্থ হচ্ছে - Violent Storm (ঝড়)।
- এই কমেডিতে Duke Prospero এবং তাঁর কন্যা Miranda এর কথা বলা হয়েছে, যারা কিনা ডিউকের ছোট ভাইয়ের দ্বারা ষড়যন্ত্রের স্বীকার হয়ে এক দূরদ্বীপে নির্বাসিত হয়।
- এই নাটকে Propero কে supernatural powers এর অধিকারী হিসেবে দেখানো হয়েছে যার আয়ত্বে থাকে Ariel এবং Caliban নামক দুইটি supernatural creature.

- Shakespeare -কে 'Bard of Avon' or 'Swan of Avon' বলা হয় কারণ তার সাথে স্ট্র্যাটফোর্ড-আপন-অ্যাভন শহরের সম্পর্ক রয়েছে,
- যেখানে তিনি ১৫৬৪ সালে জন্মগ্রহণ করেছিলেন এবং যেখানে তিনি তার শৈশবকাল কাটিয়েছিলেন।
