The shortest period of English Literature is -

• The Romantic Period is the shortest period of English Literature.
- ১৭৯৮ সালে William Wordsworth রচিত Lyrical Ballads এর প্রকাশনার মাধ্যমে Romantic Period এর সূচনা হয়
- ১৮৩২ সালে Reformation Act এর মাধ্যমে এই যুগের সমাপ্তি ঘটে।
- এই যুগকে 'Revival of Romanticism' ও বলা হয়ে থাকে because the romantic ideals of the Elizabethan Period revived during this period.
- এই যুগের স্থায়িত্বকাল মাত্র ৩৪ বছর ( 1798-1832)

• English Literature Periods and their sub ages:
1. The Old English Period (450 -1066) (longest period)

2. The Middle English Period (1066 -1500)
i) The Anglo-Norman Period.
ii) The Age of Chaucer.

3. The Renaissance Period (1500 -1660)
i) Elizabethan Period (1558-1603), (Golden age),
ii) Jacobean Period (1603-1625),
iii) Caroline Period (1625-1649) and
iv) Commonwealth Period (1649-1660).

4. The Neoclassical Period (1660 -1785)
i) The Restoration Period (1660-1700),
ii) The Augustan Period (1700-1745) (age of Pope)
iii) The Age of Sensibility (1745-1785/1798). (Age of Dr. Samuel Johnson)

5. The Romantic Period (1798 -1832) (shortest period)

6. The Victorian Period (1832 -1901)
i) The Pre-Raphaelites: (1848-1860)
ii) Aestheticism & Decadence: (1880-1901)

7. The Modern Period (1901 -1939)
1. The Edwardian Period (1901-1910)
2. The Georgian Period (1910-1939)

8. The Post Modern Period (1939 ) (latest period)
