The controlling idea of a paragraph is reflected by -

Topic Sentence: 
- A sentence that expresses the main idea of the paragraph in which it occurs.
- অর্থাৎ, Paragraph এর মূল অংশ theme যে অংশে থাকে, তাকে topic sentence বলে।

• Paragraph এ সাধারণত তিনটি অংশ থাকে।
- যথা: Topic Sentence, Body, Terminator. 

• Body:
- প্রথম sentence- এর পর থেকে শেষ sentence এর আগ পর্যন্ত পুরো অংশটাকে parragraph এর body বলা যায়।
- এতে এমন সব বাক্যসমষ্টি থাকে যা paragraph এর মূল idea বা theme কে উপস্থাপিত করে।

• Terminator:
- এটাকে paragraph এর সমাপ্তি, উপসংহার বলে। এটি দিয়ে Paragraph শেষ হয়।
- অর্থাৎ একটি সার্থক সমাপ্তিসূচক sentence কে বলা হয় Terminator.
