• Metaphor:
- An implicit comparison between two different things.
- যখন কোনো বাক্যে দুটি ভিন্ন বা বিজাতীয় জিনিসের মাঝে পরোক্ষভাবে বা রূপকার্থে তুলনা করা হয় তাকে বলা হয় Metaphor.
- সাধারণত Metaphor দ্বারা এমন দুইটি জিনিসের মধ্যে তুলনা দেওয়া হয় যারা একই রকম বা সদৃশ নয় কিন্তু তাদের মধ্যে কিছু সাধারণ মিল থাকে।
- Metaphor এবং Simile এর মাঝে পার্থক্য হলো As ও Like এর উল্লেখ না থাকা।
- অর্থাৎ উপমাবাচক শব্দের প্রয়োগ না করে, উভয়ের মধ্যে সাধারণ গুনের উল্লেখ না করে সাদৃশ্য প্রদর্শনের নাম Metaphor.

• Example:
All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players.
And all men and women are merely players.
They have their exits and entrances.
- Here, the "world" has been compared to "a stage" to suggest a short life on earth.
- "Entrances" and "exits" are also metaphor which imply birth and death, respectively.
