• Metaphor:
- A metaphor is an implicit comparison between two different things.
- যখন কোনো বাক্যে দুটি ভিন্ন বা বিজাতীয় জিনিসের মাঝে পরোক্ষভাবে বা রূপকার্থে তুলনা করা হয় তাকে বলা হয় Metaphor.
- সাধারণত Metaphor দ্বারা এমন দুইটি জিনিসের মধ্যে তুলনা দেওয়া হয় যারা একই রকম বা সদৃশ নয় কিন্তু তাদের মধ্যে কিছু সাধারণ মিল থাকে।
- অর্থাৎ, As ও Like এর মতো উপমাবাচক শব্দের প্রয়োগ না করে, উভয়ের মধ্যে সাধারণ গুনের উল্লেখ না করে সাদৃশ্য প্রদর্শনের নাম Metaphor.
- যেমন:
- Life is but a walking shadow.
- Revenge is a wild justice.
- The world is a stage.

• Allusion:
- An implicit or indirect reference to another work of literature, a historical or mythical person or event.
- কোনো বিখ্যাত ব্যক্তি, ঘটনা, বা সাহিত্যকর্মের প্রতি সংক্ষিপ্ত ইঙ্গিত বা উল্লেখ।
- এটি সরাসরি বলা হয় না, বরং বুঝতে হয় প্রেক্ষাপট থেকে।
- যেমন: "He was a real Romeo with the ladies." (রোমিও বলতে উইলিয়াম শেক্সপিয়রের প্রেমিক চরিত্রের ইঙ্গিত)।

• Irony:
- 'Irony' is an expression or statement where real meaning is concealed or contradicted.
- 'Irony' বলতে মূলত বক্তব্য জোরালো করতে নিজ চিন্তার সম্পূর্ণ বিপরীত কিছু বলে মনোভাব ব্যক্তকরণকে বুঝায়।
- প্রশংসার আদলে নিন্দা কিংবা নিন্দার আদলে প্রশংসা করা হয় এরূপ রচনা দ্বারা।
- অর্থাৎ এ ধরনের উক্তি দ্বারা যা বলা হয়, প্ৰকৃত অর্থ তার সম্পূর্ণ বিপরীত বুঝানো হয়।
- যেমন: Someone looks out the window during a storm and says, "What a lovely weather today!"
- আসলে আবহাওয়া খুব খারাপ, কিন্তু সে উল্টোটা বলছে বিদ্রুপ করে।

• Simile:
- A simile is an explicit comparison between two different things.
- Usually as and like are used in it.
- In simile the resemblance is explicitly indicated by the words.
- দুটি ভিন্নধর্মী জিনিসের মধ্যে As ও Like দ্বারা তুলনা বোঝালে তাকে Simile বলে।
- উপমেয়ের সাথে উপমানের সাদৃশ্য কল্পনা করা।
- যেমন: She is as innocent as a lamb.
