In literature, what is an Apostrophe?

Answer: A direct address to an absent or imaginary person or object.

• Apostrophe: (সম্বোধন অলঙ্কার)
- An address to someone absent or something abstract as if the person or the thing were present.
- অর্থাৎ, অনুপস্থিত কোনো ব্যাক্তি বা বস্তুকে সম্বোধন করে তারঁ উদ্দেশ্যে কিছু বলা।
- By using an apostrophe, a speaker turns from the audience to address a single person or thing.
- এটা এক ধরনের Personification ।
- এখানে লেখক প্রানহীন, নির্জীব বস্তুকে ব্যক্তিরুপে কিংবা অনুপস্থিত ব্যক্তিকে উপস্থিত ব্যক্তিরুপে সম্বোধন করেন।
- In other words, the addressing of a usually absent person or a usually personified thing rhetorically.

• Example:
- "O wind, if winter comes, can spring be far behind?"
