• Principal Clause:
- যে সকল clause তাদের অর্থ প্রকাশের জন্য অন্য কোনো clause এর উপর নির্ভরশীল নয় তাদের principal clause বলে।
- আধুনিক English Grammar এ Simple sentence কেও clause বলা হয় কারণ Simple sentence গুলাে সর্বদাই principal clause হয়ে থাকে।
- Principal clause কে আবার Main clause বা Independent clause-ও বলা হয়। 

• Although she studied hard, she failed the test.
- এখানে 'she failed the test' একটি Simple sentence এবং নিজেই সম্পূর্ণ অর্থ প্রকাশ করছে। 
- তাই এটি একটি Principal clause.
