Verb এর সাথে ing যোগ হয়ে যদি noun এর কাজ করে অর্থাৎ Verb ও noun এর কাজ করে, তাহলে তাকে Gerund বলে।
সংক্ষেপে: Gerund = Verb + ing = noun = Verb + noun.
Gerund মূলত noun এবং বাক্যে একটি সাধারণ noun এর মত ব্যবহৃত হয়। কারণ Gerund সর্বদাই noun এর স্থানে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
যেমন-
- I like dancing.
- Reading books is my hobby.
- Working in the morning is good for health.
- Reading is an excellent habit. ইত্যাদি।

প্রশ্নের বাক্যে scream + ing "start" verb এর অবজেক্ট হিসাবে কাজ করছে। অর্থ্যাৎ এটি Noun.
তাই screaming একটি Gerund.
