Verb এর  past participle রুপটি যখন বাক্যে ব্যবহৃত হয়ে একই সাথে  verb এবং adjective এর কাজ করে, তখন তাকে Past Participle  বলে। 

প্রদত্ত বাক্যে, broken কোন শব্দটি  নির্দিষ্ট Tense  এর অর্থ প্রকাশ করছে না এবং এটি বাক্যে adjective এর কাজ করছে। সুতরাং  এটি একটি Participle. (past)

Participle মূলত: তিন প্রকার: 
1. Present Participle. Ex: Do not disturb a sleeping dog. 
2. Past Participle. Ex: This is a book written by Charles Dickens. 
3. Perfect Participle. Ex: Having eaten rice, he went to bed.
