Choose the correct sentence

• Correct Sentence: One-fifth of the students are present today.

• সাধারণত ভগ্নাংশের ক্ষেত্রে প্রথমটি One এর বেশি হলে দ্বিতীয়টির সঙ্গে 's' যোগ হয় (যেমন: Two-thirds).
- কিন্তু প্রথমটি One হলে দ্বিতীয়টির সঙ্গে 's' যোগ হয় না (যেমন: One-fifth).
- তবে ভগ্নাংশের পর Subject যদি 'singular' হয় তাহলে Verb singular হবে।
- Subject যদি 'plural' হলে Verb plural হবে।

• উল্লিখিত বাকি অপশনগুলো,
খ) One-fifths of the students are present today.
- ভুল। কারণ One-fifths না হয়ে One-fifth হবে। তাই ভুল।

গ) One-fifth of the student are present today.
- ভুল। "the student" একবচন, তাই verb are না হয়ে is হবে।

ঘ) One-fifth of the students were present today.
- ভুল। কারণ এখানে "today" থাকায় Tense অনুসারে এটি Present Tense. কিন্তু এখানে verb were ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে, যা Past Tense কে নির্দেশ করে। তাই ভুল।
