প্রথম বিশ্বযুদ্ধের ঘটনাপ্রবাহ তাদের দুজনকে একত্রিত করে ইটালিতে। যদিও Catherine ছিলেন সদ্য বিধবা; তাদের মধ্যে প্রেমের এবং সহানূভুতির সম্পর্ক গড়ে উঠে।
