Understanding phrase:
- A phrase is one or more words that form a meaningful grammatical unit within a clause. (Not a complete sentence though)
- দুই বা ততোধিক শব্দ মিলিয়ে সেই শব্দগুচ্ছটি যখন একটি নির্দিষ্ট Parts of Speech এর অর্থ প্রকাশ করে, তখন তাকে Phrase বলে।
- প্রদত্ত বাক্যে, ‍a great star এই তিনটি আলাদা শব্দ মিলিয়ে Phrase গঠন করেছে। যার অর্থ, একজন বিখ্যাত তারকা। এটা একটা Noun phrase এর উদাহরণ।

মনে রাখতে হবে,
- Phrase কোন পূর্ণাঙ্গ বাক্য নয়। Phrase এ কোন Finite verb থাকে না, কিংবা Subject+verb structure টিও থাকে না।
- কোন Phrase এ Noun এবং Verb একসাথে আসে না। Example: The red pen is karim's. এটা একটা Noun Phrase এর উদাহরণ।

Types of Phrases:
There are five main types of phrases in English, as below:
- Noun phrases. Ex: as a good friend// The tiny mouse.
- Verb phrases. Ex: drives carefully // was reading
- Adjective phrases. Ex: very cold and dark// very tall
- Adverb phrases. Ex: quite slowly// Only occasionally
- Prepositional phrases. Ex: in first place// on the table.
