- এই ধরনের কবিতার মধ্যবর্তী ভাগে তীব্র মনঃকষ্ট সঞ্চারিত হতে দেখা যায়, যেটি পাঠক এবং লেখক দুইপক্ষকেই  প্রাভাবিত করে।
- এর শেষ হয় consolation অর্থাৎ সান্ত্বনা; প্রবোধ ইত্যাদির মধ্য দিয়ে।
- এটি মূলত lofty style অনুসরন করে লেখা হয়।
- এই ধরনের কবিতা বিষয়বস্তু খুব গুরুগম্ভির হয় এবং it's tone is grave.

• Odes are three types - 
- The Pindaric ode regular ode
- The Horatian ode
- The irregular ode.

অন্যদিকে,
• Ballad - A narrative poem that tells a story through dialogue and action.
• Hymn - A lyric poem or songs in praise of God.
• Requiem - A musical composition for the mass (a kind of funeral prayer) of a dead person.
