Sir Philip Sidney was an Elizabethan courtier, statesman, soldier, poet, and patron of scholars and poets considered the ideal gentleman of his day.
After Shakespeare’s sonnets, Sidney’s Astrophel and Stella is considered the finest Elizabethan sonnet cycle.
