Question: A retailer bought a batch of 100 electronic gadgets for Tk. 30,000. However, during transportation, 10% of them got damaged and couldn't be sold. To make a 20% profit, at what price should each of the remaining gadgets be sold?
Solution:
Given that,
Total gadgets = 100
Total cost = Tk. 30,000
Damaged = 10% ⇒ 10 gadgets
Sellable gadgets = 90
Required profit = 20%
Required selling price for 20% profit.
Total selling price = 30000 + 20% of 30000
= 30000 + (20/100) × 30000
= 30000 + 6000
= Tk. 36000
∴ Selling price per usable gadget = 36000/90 ; [Sellable gadgets = 90]
= Tk. 400
So, the retailer should sell each remaining gadget for Tk. 400
