• Victorian period এর বিখ্যাত সাহিত্যিক Thomas Hardy একজন regional poet and novelist হিসেবে বিশেষ ভাবে পরিচিত।
- তাঁর প্রায় সকল উপন্যাস গুলোতে 'Wassex' এর গ্রামীণ পরিবেশ, সামাজিক রীতিনীতি, ভাষার আঞ্চলিক রূপ এবং জীবন যাপনের পদ্ধতির ছোঁয়া দেখতে পাওয়া যায়।

অন্যদিকে,
ক) Epistolary Novel - A novel in the form of letter.
- অনেকটা চিঠির মতো করে লেখা এই উপন্যাসগুলো।
Example - Richardson's Pamela.

খ) Picaresque Novel বলতে এমন ধরনের Novel বোঝায় যেখানে Novel এর প্রধান চরিত্র একজন rascal or knave যে এক স্থান থেকে অন্য স্থানে adventures এর জন্য ঘুরে বেড়ায় এবং তার evil antagonist দের বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহ করে।
- এই ধরনের Novel গুলো manner এর দিক থেকে realistic এবং aim এর দিক থেকে satiric.

ঘ) Gothic Novel - A form of prose narrative which comprise a medieval setting, wild and horrific incidents and mysterious occurrences.
- অনেক সময়ই ভৌতিক উপাদান পাওয়া যায় এই উপন্যাসগুলোতে। পাশাপাশি দ্বন্দ্ব, সংঘাত কিংবা উন্মত্ততাও থাকে কাহিনীকে ঘিরে।
- Example - Charles Dicken's Great Expectation.
